Proverbs 6:23 ~ For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life.
Do you consider yourself a person that likes to learn new things? Are you one that is open to being taught? Oftentimes, we say we are but are actions don’t really reflect that because instead we close ourselves off from experiences, relationships or opportunities to learn.
In this Proverb, we get to learn from Solomon as he shared his wisdom and taught his sons about the facts of life. Similarly, God’s word (His commandments) has been given, as a lamp to provide guidance on the direction our lives should take. Jesus’ teaching was given to shed light on how we should live. The Holy Spirit provides the corrections and discipline to keep or get us back on God’s path for us. We don’t know it all. We don’t know what we don’t know. That’s why in order to grow spiritually, personally and professionally; we must be open to learning. We should have a teachable spirit. I must confess, there have been times when my “I’m independent” or “I got this” attitude caused me to not have a teachable spirit. Having that attitude is when the lesson usually cost me the most to learn, either financially, time wise, or both.
God has placed so many avenues in our lives to help us grow and mature. Number one is His word. God wants us to spend consistent time studying His word, so that He may be our number one source. But He also provides us with many other avenues in which we can learn, such as educational school systems and institutions, books, the Internet, and experts. But I also believe, God surrounds us with a circle of friends, family and associates as a means for us to learn from one another and share in the wisdom we have gained individually. He did not intend for us to do this life alone. Is there someone in your circle that you know has experience in something that you are trying to do, but for whatever reason, you have not reached out to that person? Don’t overlook an opportunity to gain knowledge from others. It just may save you a lot of heartache and more importantly it just may give you an opportunity to share in the blessing of a teachable moment.
Prayer: Lord, I pray that I may have a teachable spirit. Help me to see the individuals that you have placed in my life that have wisdom and knowledge about the things that I am struggling with or could just use a hand. Please remove any fear, pride or other obstacles that may be hindering me from reaching out to this person. Lord, also help me to be able to share my wisdom and knowledge with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Purpose in Action: What task or issue are you struggling with or could use a hand or more insight into? Who in your circle has experience in that area? Make time to reach out to them this week.
I would love to hear from you, please leave your comment!
For His Purpose,
