Matthew 7:12 ~ “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.”
We know this scripture as the Golden Rule and many of us have heard it since we were little kids. But I have to ask, how well are we applying the rule? How deliberate are we in making sure our behavior reflects how we want to be treated? We want people to be kind, patient, caring and loving towards us. Are we reciprocating those actions towards other? And more importantly are our actions done without the expectation of the same in return? The Golden Rule does not say be nice to others only when they are nice to you. Nor does it say show love to others only when they show you love. As children of God, He is calling us to set the standard. God wants to use us as vessels to show His love and kindness to others, regardless of their behavior towards us. We must trust God to handle the rest. Remember we may be the only “bible” some people read.
Prayer: Lord, help me to live out the “Golden Rule” in my daily life. I open myself to be a vessel for You so that Your love can flow through me and be a blessing to others. Open my eyes to see the opportunities around me to bless others and open my heart to act upon those opportunities.
Purpose in Action: Is your behavior reflecting how you want others to treat you? Take the time to truly assess your behavior.
