Romans 2:1 ~ Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgement, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
We are all guilty of something. You may not have committed murder but you wished the person who treated you badly would die or at the very least would suffer. You may not have stolen someone’s property but you took credit for some one else’s work on the job. You may have not cheated but you lied to your mate about something you did or did not do. My point is that we all have sinned; and we can not think that we are the only person that God can forgive and redeem. Just like He forgave you, God forgives the person next to you. Yes, even that person that hurt you.
If we hold judgement against someone else, we condemn ourselves; because in our judging someone else we are saying that “sinner” deserves to be punished. However, since we have also sinned, we, therefore are condemning ourselves to punishment. But Romans 8:1 states, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. It is not for us to judge another person’s sins. We can still love the person without condoning their actions. We must trust God to deal with the person according to His purpose and will. Just as He does us.
Even though there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, there are consequences for our sins. I know God disciplines me and uses the convictions of my sins and failures to shape and mature me. He does the same for all of us. I have learned if I focus on the areas that God is working on in my life, I really don’t have time to make judgement on anyone else’s life. Working on me is a 24/7, 365 days a year task.
Prayer: Lord, forgive us for the times we put blinders on to our own sins in order to judge someone else’s. Help us to break that negative habit and instead of judging and condemning our brothers and sisters, help us to better hold each other accountable. And when one of us falls, help us to be there to help them get back up. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Purpose in Action: Take some time for self-reflection. Have you been judgmental or critical of another person sins? How can you still show that person love?
