Job 42:10 ~ After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.
Are you praying for your friends? So often we can get so caught up in our own problems and issues that our prayers are all about us. We should stop and learn a lesson from Job. With all that Job was going through, losing his family and possessions, he was able to be obedient to God and pray for his friends. Yes, he prayed for the “well-meaning” friends that gave bad advice about why Job was suffering. Job looked beyond himself, his situation, and even his friend’s wrong assumptions about why he was suffering, to still pray for them.
Likewise, we need to go beyond ourselves; and our own problems to not just consider others, but to advocate for them in prayer. We need to be intentional intercessors, praying for our family, friends, and enemies alike. Philippians 2:3-4 states “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” When we take our mind off ourselves and invest in helping others through our prayers and actions, we step out of God’s way, which allows Him to work on our behalf. While Job was praying for his friends, God was restoring all that Job had lost. Why, because Job was not consumed with himself. He trusted God and humbled himself.
Just like Job, we need to speak to God these words: “I know that You can do all things; no purpose of Yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2). So, I challenge you today to be like Job by first trusting God with your own situation and then two, take the time to pray for others. Be deliberate; ask others how can you pray for them. I’ll start. How can I pray for you?
Prayer: Lord, I pray for the person reading this. You know their need. I pray that You will touch and meet their need in a supernatural way. Strengthen those who are tired and weary; comfort those who are hurting or mourning; protect and provide for those in need. May Your miraculous blessings rain down. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Purpose in Action: Reach out to three people this week and ask them how can you pray for them. If you have prayer needs, I would love to pray for you. Please email me at likeisha@destinationpurpose.com.
