Psalm 23:1 ~ The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Are you in want? Often, we can get so caught up in what we want that we miss the blessings of what we have. There is great comfort in this first verse of the familiar 23rd Psalm. If the LORD is our shepherd, then we are sheep. Take some time and think about the characteristics of sheep. Sheep are not the smartest of animals. When they are lost or separated from their flock or Shepherd, they can walk around in endless circles, basically in a state of confusion. Sheep are weak, vulnerable, helpless and dirty without the Shepherds help. I don’t know about you, but that sounds a lot like me.
In those times that I have walked or strayed away from God’s guidance, it has left me in a state of confusion; feeling like I am going around in circles. However, when I take my eyes off my problems and focus them back on my God, my Shepherd, He reminds me that He is there for me. He is there to guide me, to provide and protect me. He reminds me that He has given me everything I need for that moment and there is no need to want.
Remember, scripture instructs us to “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33) If we keep God first by honoring and worshiping Him and making our relationship with Him our number one priority, He will give us all that we need at the appropriate time. We just have to trust Him.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for being my Shepherd. For leading and guiding me. I am not smart enough to go this journey alone and surrender to Your guidance. Thank you for providing all that I need and reminding me that with You as my shepherd, I shall not want. Amen.
Purpose in Action: What “want” have you had that caused you to stray from God? Take it to God in prayer, repent and ask Him to direct your path. And trust that in due time, God will give you the desires of your heart for those things that line up with His will.
For His Purpose,
