Are You Trying to Move Mountains?

imagesMatthew 17:20 ~ And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for I truly say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

In this passage of Matthew, the disciples asked Jesus why they could not drive out the demon that possessed a man that was brought to them. Jesus stated that it was because of the littleness of their faith. I wonder how often the littleness of our faith has resulted in us not being able to do something that Christ has given us the power and authority to do. We must be careful not to allow doubt and fear to overshadow our faith. As Jesus teaches in this passage, that only a little faith is needed. I believe often the challenge is about who or what are we actually putting our faith in. Our faith must be in the power of God to move on our behalf. We must be careful not to misplace our faith by putting it in our own ability or the abilities of others. I have been guilty of doing that all the while saying that I have faith in God. The reality was I was still trying to control and manipulate the situation to try to get the desired outcome. That’s not true faith. True faith calls for us to humble ourselves, putting aside egos and pride, and trusting God to work things out. True faith also means surrendering ourselves to the process of whatever change needs to be made within ourselves. That could mean a change in attitude, perspectives or negative habits. And believe me, I know how painful that process can be. However, if we truly want our “mountains” to be moved. We have to trust God’s process.

How do we trust God’s process? By taking our problems directly to Him; by recognizing that our God is bigger than any of our struggles; and by speaking and acting in faith. Also by patiently waiting on God and being obedient to take the steps He is instructing you to do. Remember, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). So even when it looks like nothing is happen, have faith and trust that God is bringing things together on your behalf. And when it is finally revealed externally, be sure to remain humble and give God all the praise.

Prayer: Lord, forgive us when we have moments of “littleness of our faith.” Help us to not allow doubt and fear to creep in. We also pray that we will not misplace our faith but to stand firm in our faith in You, even when it’s just the size of a mustard seed. Lord we trust that on our behalf You are moving mountains and bringing about those things that seem impossible to us. Amen.

Purpose in Action: Where are you truly putting your faith, in yourself, others or God? Take time to reflect how your actions and words reflect where your faith is placed.

Change of Season

December 13, 2015 By LiKeisha Leave a Comment

Ecclesiastes 3:1 ~ There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Christ was born so that none of us would have to experience the seasons of life alone, whether they are joyous or seasons of sorrow. Just as we have seasons of the year, there are seasons in […]

Overcoming Lonely Places

December 6, 2015 By LiKeisha Leave a Comment

Luke 5:16 ~ But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. (NIV) Some of you may be more familiar with the King James translation of this scripture that says Jesus withdrew into the wilderness.  I always just looked at this verse as Jesus taking time to be alone to pray, which we all should […]

Patiently Waiting

November 29, 2015 By LiKeisha Leave a Comment

James 5:7-8 ~ Be patient, then brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming.  See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.  You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Waiting is a part of life.  Even in […]
