We always want to see the full picture of where we are suppose to be going. Faith calls for us to trust the direction God is taking us in, even when we can’t see the whole picture or things seem off. It’s interesting how simple everyday experiences can be used to remind us of God’s word. Recently, I parked in an extremely narrow 10-story parking garage. Entering the garage was scary as I attempted to maneuver the narrow ramp. However, my anxiety level went up greatly as I tried to exit. I started out following the exit signs that took me up to the top level. As a reached the top, there just didn’t appear to me to be an actual exit, so I turned around thinking I missed a sign somewhere. However, this resulted in me going the wrong way down this extremely narrow ramp of the now full parking garage. I had put myself in a dangerous position and knew I had to figure out how to get turned back around because I was an accident waiting to happen. So, nervously and slowly, I began my turn around. Once, I got back in the right direction, I again made myself to the top level; which is when I decided to just follow the signs even though it didn’t seem to be the right way. Sure enough, around the next corner was my exit ramp. If only I had trusted the signs the first time.
But isn’t that the way we are with our faith in God sometimes. To have faith means you strongly believe or trust in something or someone. Substance is what makes up or the nature of an item or idea – the main ingredient. So if faith is the substance (the main ingredient) of what we are hoping for, it means that our belief and trust in God should be the foundation of what we are hoping for, even when we can’t see how things will work. When our dreams and goals line up with God’s will and purpose for our lives, we can be confident in our faith what we are hoping for, will come to be; that God is leading us in the right direction. Our faith is what is evident – our faith is the outward sign of what is yet to be seen. Our faith provides us peace when we can’t see the full picture and the world around us seems to be falling apart.
Do our hopes and dreams always look like what we had envisioned? Not always. But we have to trust that our loving Father is going beyond what we have hoped or imagined and blesses us with exactly what we need. So if things are not looking like you thought it would, don’t lose hope. Continue to let your faith be the evidence of things not seen and trust that God is working it all out for your good.
Prayer: Lord, strengthen our faith. Help us to trust even when we can’t see the full picture. Lord, we thank you for your unwavering love and surrender to Your will and Your timing in all that we are hoping for. Amen.
Purpose in Action:
What are you hoping for right now? How has God reassured you that He is working things out for your good?
